On my Love List … Stripes!

I recently saw a post from a colleague about design elements she uses over and over again, simply because she loves them. In most cases, when my style aligns with a client’s style, there is a strong likelihood that the project will be exciting for everyone involved.

I don’t think there’s any shame in saying designers like to work with clients who appreciate the designer’s inherent style and taste. After all, what usually attracts clients to designers initially are the portfolio photos.

I find myself being drawn to stripes over and over again. They’re so easy to work with. You can incorporate stripes into a mix with patterns of a different scale, or they can stand on their own as the featured pattern.

Stripes are also timeless. Never out of style. Always crisp and smart.

Here is a shower we completed a few years ago for a pool house bathroom. Multi colored subway tiles create the stripes for a whimsical and colorful shower. The house was built in the 70’s and the clients wanted a bathroom that would blend seamlessly with the original architecture. (Note terrazzo porcelain floor tiles)

Below is a bunk room we created from 2 separate spaces in our Soddy Daisy Lakehouse project. Primarily used for grandchildren, the jungle themed bedding mixed with stripes is appealing for children of all ages. Extra points if you noticed the striped carpet!

I would have to say stripes are on my love list as a permanent entry. Are you as enamored with stripes as I am?
